Shadow or Real?

Shadow or Real? Have you ever looked at your shadow on the wall and wondered — is that really me? This story, “Shadow or Real?” is inspired by the words of Rumi: “We have not truly come into this world — what appears here is only our shadow.” Through a warm conversation between a curious grandchild and a wise Grandma, we explore what Rumi meant. Grandma uses simple examples — a hand’s shadow made by torchlight, and a droplet lifted from a cup of water — to show that our body and life on earth are like temporary reflections. The shadow may disappear, the droplet may merge back into the water, but the light and source never end. To deepen this message, a video clip of Mawlana Shah Karim al-Husayni (Salawatullahi Alayhi) is included, where he gently reminds us: “Life is ordained. It begins and it ends. And the soul is eternal….” Just like the droplet returning to the ocean, our soul returns to its eternal home — the Divine Light. So as you read and watch this comic story, pause and think: How will your droplet ripple in the ocean of life? How will your shadow show your inner light today?
